Last week, we threw open the doors to Headquarters by W15, and boy, did we make some serious waves! The stage was set for an extraordinary celebration that had Colombo buzzing with excitement. Let's rewind and relive the incredible moments from our Grand Preview and Grand Opening!

Picture this: It's a Friday night, the 14th of July, 2023. The air is filled with anticipation as our lucky invitees gathered for the exclusive Grand Preview. From 6 PM onwards, our rooftop oasis came alive with the rhythm of free-flowing cocktails and tantalizing canapés.

DJ Henricus took charge of the music, infusing the space with infectious beats that had everyone grooving. And let's not forget the soulful saxophone melodies by the one and only Binu Sax, creating an atmosphere that was simply magical.

But the fun didn't stop there. Fast forward to Saturday, the 15th of July, 2023, and we kicked off the Grand Opening in true Headquarters style. Our invitees were treated to a cocktail and canapé extravaganza, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. From 6 PM to 9 PM, we indulged our guests with a sensory feast that left taste buds dancing and hearts soaring.

And guess what? When the clock struck 9 PM, we flung open our doors to the public, inviting everyone to join the party! It was a Saturday night to remember as the lively tunes of Lunatics and Ace filled the air, electrifying the atmosphere and igniting a collective sense of joy. The energy was contagious as guests reveled in the vibrant ambience, dancing the night away and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

But the excitement didn't end with the cocktails and canapés. Our Main Menu and Signature dishes also took center stage on both Friday and Saturday in our restaurant. From mouthwatering starters to delectable mains, our culinary creations delighted taste buds and showcased the rich flavours of our vibrant cuisine.

A Q&A with Charith Wijesundara

What is your story towards becoming an artist?

As a professional, I am a chartered architect and an artist. However, even before becoming an architect/artist, even as a small kid, I had a passion for art and design. I tried different art mediums during that time. I am also a big fan of vintage comic-style art, particularly vintage Sinhala comic tabloids and pop art, specifically Roy Lichtenstein's art style. During my studies in architecture, I experimented with these art styles, and the entire art scene started as a self-taught – fun-experimental thing. Over time, I have explored different pathways in my art journey.

As an artist today, what are your goals and what kind of art do you focus on recently?

As an artist, the main thing is to enjoy the process and the journey. I always love experimenting with different things and working on various art and design projects. Recently, I have found it very interesting to work on different projects with unique challenges. For example, this Headquarters by W15 project is something I was really excited to work on. The idea of showcasing and telling the story of Colombo through my art was very challenging and exciting.

What inspired your ideas for the murals and wall art in the restaurant and bar

When I got to know about this project, I was really excited, mainly because of the whole concept around it. The idea was to capture the essence of Colombo and its rich history, its people, its lifestyle, and showcase that as a story. It was a very interesting and challenging task. Instead of just jumping into drawing, the idea was to tell a story about Colombo to the people who visit the restaurant and bar. So before doing anything else, I walked around the streets of Colombo and also went through some history books to learn and capture the essence of the city. As an artist, I would say that this is a project that I really enjoyed doing.

What do you think about the outcome of this collaboration?

Personally, the artwork and the whole space tied up pretty well. I actually think the space and art complement each other. I believe that the entire culinary experience, location, interior design, and artworks all complement each other. I would love to see the reaction of people when they start experiencing the new restaurant and bar and begin interacting with my art.
